Question: will citalopram/celexa show up on a common urine screen? I've read it may show for benzos. I haven't found a clear answer

Brief Answer:
Yes, if the lab tests for it! but not routinely tested for!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this concern about citalopram/celexa. These are not routinely tested or looked for in a routine drug screen. However, if the lab specifically tests for them, they will be able to tell that it is present or not. Do you have any testing planned?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Brief Answer:
No, it doesn't show up as a benzo!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the link you sent. Citalopram cannot show up as Benzo. These are very distinct classes of medications. They really have nothing in common. It would be more of a rare occurrence than a normal tendency.

I wish you well and please do not let the though of testing for benzos make you feel this can be detected on benzos testing.

will it give a false positive for anything else?

Answered by Dr. Ivo Ditah (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, it can!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It can always give false positive for related drugs but not for totally unrelated medications like Benzos. If there are any other drugs you are worried about false positive, let me know of them and I will respond addressing that. There are endless possibilities that such a generalised question cannot address.

I wish you well.
