How Long Pain Exist In Molar Tooth Filled For A Cavity?

Question: Hi,

I had a toothache which I thought was at the lower left molar tooth. However, it could also be the left upper molar tooth or teeth which are also quite ground down from grinding of the teeth.

I have had the left molar tooth filled for a cavity. However, during and shortly after the procedure I noticed the ache continue. Does this mean that the pain is associated with the left upper molar teeth instead of lower molars as these would have been under anaesthetic. Or can the teeth continue to hurt even under anaesthesia if the issue is serious or the roots are affected?

My left jaw and also left ear and left parts of the throat could also be feeling a bit of pain when experiencing the toothache.

Hi,

I also forgot to mention that the dentist mentioned that there was a hairline crack under the cavity and to keep an eye on the issue and if there is any further pain.

Brief Answer:
Only an xray or scan give proper diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hii, first of all thank you for approaching us with your query. I read through your query.

The pain can be due to upper teeth also as it can be due to referred pain. Also since there is hairline crack beneath the cavity the pain can be due to that . So for reaching the proper diagnosis we may have to take an xray(pantamogram) or cbct scan of both the segments so that we can get a proper picture of the problem. If you have any xrays with you please sent me.

Hope you understood what I meant.
Thank you and have a healthy day.
Thankyou

Hi,

Thanks for your opinion.

As an update I did a tooth filling last Wednesday which found a crack in the tooth. Then the pain in the tooth continued and on Thursday I went to have the pulp in the bottom molar tooth removed (2nd from the back).

Antibiotic ointment was injected and a temporary crown made. I am due for a laser root canal on Thursday.

Now that the infected pulp has been extracted and replaced with antibiotics is it usually necessary for a root canal to take place? Given there is no pain at the moment. Is a laser root canal beneficial in any way compared to a normal root canal and can it be done where there is already a filling in the tooth as in my case? I am getting a substance at the base of the molars even though I understand only one tooth was injected with antibiotics. There is a hard substance between the gums and teeth for another 2 teeth around the infected tooth, is there any idea what might be the cause?

Does the temporary crown need to be removed before the laser root canal procedure can be done, to be replaced with another temporary crown? Will the measurements for the permanent crown normally be done at the root canal procedure in my case and what is the timeframe for a permanent crown to be made usually?

Thank you,
Regards.
