Question: Hi,
I have problem in one of my wisdom tooth which is horizontally laid down and obstructing the side tooth, now the problem is that there is bit pain in the wisdom tooth for which filling was done some time back and it seems that infection is started in that tooth and extraction is advised for the tooth, could you please help with the following:
1)How long the antibiotics are required to have the infection fixed
2)Is extraction the only option or RCT can be considered?
3)Why the wisdom tooth is like that i mean is it the common issue, need details along with the remedy.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It can be taken for 5 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in.

Impaction of wisdom tooth is very common & it occurs due to lack of space.
Wisdom tooth is vestigeal organ so its not of much use & should be extracted if cause any problem.
Antibiotic should be taken for 5 days to subside infection.
Do not worry & go for extraction.
Consult your dentist for further treatment plan.

Hope I answered your query

Wishing you good health

Brief Answer:
Yes slight swelling occurs post extraction

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Impaction is surgical procedure & slight swelling post extraction is very common.
In this surgery, firstly anaesthesia is give & then flap is removed then tooth is divided into sections & removed.
Lastly sutures are given for 1 week.
Post extraction instructions are very important.
You should take cold food stuff that day.
Do not spit whole day.
Do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day 24 hrs after extraction.
Analgesic & antibiotic should be taken for 5 days.
Avoid smoking & alcohol for a week after extraction.

If extraction is done with minimum trauma & post extraction guidelines are followed then very rarely any complication occurs.

I need your advice and answers for the following:

1)What is the difference in medicines that were given earlier as compare to these one
2)Can i avoid the extraction and go for RCT[if successfull]
3)Wisdom tooth is half in the nerve and half tilted therefore there are complications if extracted as surgery might be involved therefore need more details about the same with correct line of treatment.

Could you please provide your opinion with details.

Thanks.

Answered by Dr. Neha Sumra (31 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Medicines will provide temporary relief

Detailed Answer:
Hi

These medicines contain muscle relaxant & different antibiotic as compared to earlier.
In my opinion its better to go for extraction than RCT.Still if you want to pursue for RCT consult endodontist & show me the x-ray of tooth.
