How Long Should I Continue Urimax-D OD For Enlarged Prostrate?

Question: I am 65 . two years back I was diagnosed prostrate enlargement size - 46 cc. I was prescribed urimex -D OD and 2 tabs Himplasia BD (Himalya Aurvedic co.).now after two years the size is reduced to 29cc and urine retention is reduced from 32cc to 15cc and have no problem in urination. sir my questions are---
1 Should I continue the medicine.
2 what is normal size of prostrate
3 Sexually I am very perfect but semen discharge during intercourse has diminishing and some time no discharge.
Sir . your help and advise will be utmost important to me .

Thanks for your query.
You have been detected to have enlarged prostate and have been taking Urimax D (Combination of Tomsulosin and Dutasteride).

Since the recent Ultrasound Scan has revealed size of the prostate to be reduced in comparison to previous one ,You may take plane Tomsulosin (Urimax) once daily.

The normal size of the prostate is 20 -22 CC.

The problem related to your ejaculation is due retrograde ejaculation.This is known side effect of Tomsulosin . There is nothing to be worried about it.

Dr I am thankful for your response . But my question is whether the retrograde ejaculation is the side effect of tomsulosin or it is due to enlarged prostrate . How and when I will be able to recover? How long should I continue urimax? I missed to narrate that during the period
I developed LIGHT BROWN PATCHES on the head of the penis without any itching etc. Is it fungal infection or side effect ? pl suggest any treatment

Thanks for follow up.

Retrograde ejaculation is side effect of Tomsulosin and will continue as long as you would take the drug .It will get recovered within two days of stopping the Urimax.

Stop taking Urimax for a while ,if there is improvement in your symptoms you may stop it taking for forever .
However if the voiding urinary symptoms still persists you will have to choose the option of either taking Tomsulosin or to go for Endoscopic Surgery of resection of enlarged prostate (TURP).

The brown patches on the head of the penis may be due to what is called as Ballanitis Xerotica Obliterance (BXO).However this can be confirmed only on clinical examination.It is not due to side effect of any drug.
