How Much Methadone Can Be Taken For Pain Management?

Question: hurt neck n back in accident 10 years ago...pain management dr. had me on fentanyl for 5 years...pain level about a 5 most of the time.then changed me to methadone. started out 20 mg in am and 20 mg in pm...now it's 40 mg in am and 40 mg in pm.. pain level gone to a 6 or 7 now. I am female 120 lbs, age 50...How much more methadone can I take ???? is there something better now on the market ?Please advise....TNT...

You can take upto 150 mg methadone per day. Market does not have anything new, but you can qsk your doc to combine various drugs to give you a better outcome. Like adding two different opioids e.g. methadone with fentanyl, or spacing methadone with morphine. Also you may get adjuvants like tryptilline, pregabalin or gabapentin added to your drug regimen to avoid taking maximum dose of any one medicine.
