How Much Methadone Can Be Taken For Pain Relief?

Question: hurt neck n back in accident 10 years ago...pain management dr. had me on fentanyl for 5 years...pain level about a 5 most of the time.then changed me to methadone. started out 20 mg in am and 20 mg in pm...now it's 40 mg in am and 40 mg in pm.. pain level gone to a 6 or 7 now. I am female 120 lbs, age 50...How much more methadone can I take ???? is there something better now on the market ?Please advise....TNT...

Hi, though there surely are better drugs to treat this type of pain like morphine and also you can get adjuvents like pregabalin, gabapentin, tryptilline or amitryptilline to the on going treatment. These drugs reduce the need of methadone.
The XXXXXXX dose is 50 mg 8th hrly or so to say 150 mg / day.
There isn t something new but the combinations of the existing medication itself can do good to you like above combinations i suggested or frequent change overs from one analgesic to another like alternaying b/ w methadone/ morphine/ fentanyl and adding adjuvents as required.
