Brief Answer:
Tests available.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The answer to how long you need to wear the catheter depends entirely on why the catheterization is being done.

A micturating cystourethrogram can be done to check whether you are completely voiding your bladder. A XXXXXXX is given and the collection of the urine is noted using an X ray. You then pass urine and a follow up X ray is taken to check whether the bladder is completely vacated or whether there is residual volume left after passing urine.

Alternatively, a post-void ultrasonography of KUBP (kidney ureter bladder prostate) may be done.
