How Often Should I Get Routine Health Check Up At The Age Of 38?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: I am 38 years old. In good health from what I understand, 6'1 and 170lbs. Non-smoker. My question is how often should I get a routine physical at my age? Also with that, how often should I get lab work/complete blood count and urinalysis?

The last routine physical with complete lab work I received was 3.5 years ago. At that time, all was completely normal.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am glad you are taking full control if your health by engaging in health promotional and preventive activities. Please, keep up!

1. You need at least 150minutes of exercise weekly. If you can do more, the better. However, that should be the minimum. Start gently and work slowly until you are able to do this.

2. You ned to be evaluated at least year. What about your pap smears? Have you been having them as planned?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I'm a male, what pap smears? My question wasn't accurately answered.

At my age of 38 years old, at 6'1 and 170lb male....do I need a routine physical every single year that includes complete blood count and urinalysis?

or, do I just need a well check up without the full physical exam?

Brief Answer:
Am sorry, I mistook you for a female! Have no idea that happened!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Am sorry for mixing up your sex.

Please, you need yearly physicals. Also, stick to the recommended level of exercise suggested above.

In all, full physical exam and laboratory blood tests are recommended yearly.

I wish you well.

ok, thanks! One more question I should have also asked upfront.

Through work insurance benefits, I just had a well check up within the past 2 weeks where EKG, blood pressure (122/80), pulse check, ears, nose, throat, and breathing check have all been done and the report was all were normal/good.
With this, I also had a urinalysis conducted that came back normal. They sent me a report all was normal.

My last question is given this information above, should I feel the need to also get a lab complete blood count given the cost?

Brief Answer:
Yes, get blood tests!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There are some illnesses that are initially silent and abnormalities on blood tests can help in suspecting and investigating. I will suggest you get blood tests. There is no emergency in doing so at this time. Otherwise, plan when the means are available and get them done.

I wish you well and will be happy to review your results if you wish.
