Question :                                                        Hi, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend in the night of 31st Aug 18 and took i-pill next morning on 1st Sept which is within 24 hours. However I had sex again the following night 1st Sept night (within 24 hours of taking the i-pill). Do i need to take another i-pill? Is it safe to take another pill, if required? Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
You need another I-pill...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is not clear how long I-pill effects persists after taking it. Theoretically the effects remain for a few hours immediately after use; but the effects wane off as hormone levels start to fall. Therefore I cannot say for sure last night's I-pill will protect you again. You need to repeat I-pill to stay protected.

The two pills can create hormonal disturbances. Your periods this cycle may be disturbed - either come early or be delayed. You may have some nausea and vomiting for a few days. However no long terms side effects will occur. So it will be safe to take another pill.

Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Thank you Doctor for your response.

I have another question: I am expecting my periods by 6th Sept 2018 as per the regular cycle. In that case do i still need to take another i-pill? If yes, by how many days approximately will it delay my periods as i have travel planned from 7th Sept.

I would also like to know if i need to visit a gynecologist if my periods are delayed beyond this date? Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Unpredictable...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If your cycles are regular and your period is expected on 6th, then you are in one of your safe days where pregnancy chances are highly unlikely. But if your periods are not regular then it is necessary to take I-pill.

Period changes after I pill are not predictable. If you have travel plans and it is necessary discuss with your gynecologist for delaying period.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
