Question : Hi, I have acne from the last one year. Doctor's suggested PCOD because of other symptoms. Ultrasound reports and suggest PCOS however, my family doctor suggested that its not serious and can be ignored. I consulted another doctor and he said that i should start a treatment for PCOS. I am confused. Can't understand if its serious enough or not.

Brief Answer:
Consult and follow gynecologist and endocrinologist. Better to start treatment.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

PCOS is a genetic disorder with polygenic causation with varying degrees of severity in each individual. PCOS results in derangement of carbohydrate metabolism along with reproductive derangement and hormonal changes that result in increased facial hair, deep voice, and acne.

It is a systemic disorder and should be carefully investigated for assessing the severity. In my opinion, it is best to consult an endocrinologist as well as a gynecologist to get the best results and these doctors must work together as a team to treat you appropriately.

Please go ahead and consult an endocrinologist and a gynecologist and get yourself tested further and if the endocrinologist recommends starting the treatment, then it is best to follow her/his advice.

I hope this answers your query.

Regards
