Brief Answer:
Different possible causes

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The symptoms may be linked or related to different conditions.

Burning of the throat and chest is usually related to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Though reflux of acid can occasionally cause an itchy sensation in the throat, it is not as common a symptom.

It can also be associated with a persistent dry cough or nausea or bloating- in some persons

Treatment usually involves lifestyle changes and medication. Lifestyle changes include diet changes such as reduce acidic/spicy/fried foods eg a reduction in citrus fruits, tomato, mint, caffeine products, onion ( for some persons)

Waiting 2 hours after eating before laying down, weight loss of excess weight if there is excess weight (because it puts pressure on the stomach and esophagus) and propping up when laying down

Meds such as Pepcid, Zantac, Prilosec, Prevacid etc., may be helpful in reducing symptoms as well.

In many persons, itching of the throat is related to allergies or post nasal drip of mucus, this does not cause burning in the chest however.
This requires antihistamine/decongestant combination (even if there isn't nasal congestion- reduces post nasal drip) eg Zyrtec-D, Allegra-D, Claritine-D, Benadryl-D.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.

Could it be a possible infection? I notice at night with the air condition on its more noticeable and waking up I can feel the irritation of burning and an itch in the throat and seems to travel to my stomach or lungs. The itch goes away during the day but I notice nights and waking up have been bad.

Brief Answer:
Infection is not likely

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Infections would tend to cause symptoms during day and night till the infection resolves or it is treated.

Burning due to acid reflux tends to be worse either in early morning or evenings/nights.

Itching, if related to the reflux would then be worse at these times as well.

Post nasal drip/allergies that can cause itching that is worse in am or pm as well due to a change in temperature and moisture.
