Question: I have a 7 month old that just cut her bottom two teeth. She has been irritable, and her appetite has decreased significantly. I took her to the ER and she a had a middle ear infection and sent us home with antibiotics. She has a really raspy voice, noisy breathing, clear constant runny nose along with a barking cough.

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation and antibiotic drops should help

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As I understand, the lower incisor teeth have just erupted. Your child is possibly suffering from a viral upper respiratory infection however your doctor has done the right thing by prescribing antibiotic which needs to be given for 5-7 days. Some children are more prone to catching cold and recurrent episodes are seen. Please be patient.

You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block.
