How Should Severe Pain At The Anus Along With Itching And Burning Sensation Be Treated?

Posted on Wed, 22 Dec 2021
Question: For the last week I have had an area of skin (3/4 inch x 1/2 inch) near my anus that has been extremely painful. It is painful to the touch, itchs and burns very intensely at all times and frequently I experience sharp stabbing pains throughout the day. This last day the area has developed small grayish colored bumps. Again, it is very painful, to the point it's hard to concentrate on much of anything. I'm very embarrassed to go see a Dr. and so uncomfortable to the point of scared of having the area being checked by a Dr. As well, not even sure which Dr to see, GP, gyno, dermatologist, etc? I've been taking sitz baths several times a day, using witchhaze,l and hemorrhoid cream with lidocaine but the improvement has been minimal at best.

Brief Answer:
Seems like a perianal abscess.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

As per your description it seems like peri-anal abscess. It is nothing but a collection of pus around the anal region. We have to rule out other condition before making a diagnosis.
The treatment of choice is incision and drainage where doctor make a small nick in the region and drain the pus. It is generally done under local anesthesia.
As of now you can start a short course of antibiotics. Analgesics like ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain. If pain persist despite these, consult a general surgeon and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:You should see a doctor if it’s not resolved by antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You can take Amoxicillin plus Clauvulanic acid combination twice a day for five days. Alternatively you can try Ampicillin plus Cloxacillin also.

However better to see a surgeon for detailed evaluation.
