My husband noticed blood in his urine today and it stings to urinate

Stinging in urination with blood in urine is most probably suggestive of a urinary tract infection.
But at the same time, we have to rule out other causes of such symptoms.

Hence I would advise him of the following:
To get the urine tests: Routine, microscopy, culture, and sensitivity before the antibiotic are started.
Tests of blood: CBC, Kidney functions, PSA (Prostate-specific antigen).
Ultrasonography of abdomen, particularly for genitourinary system.
All these help to pinpoint the cause so that a specific curative treatment can be done. Till then ask him to take plenty of liquids orally. I hope this answer helps.
