Question : At now 20 years of age I’ve been dealing with a combination problems related to my digestive system. These consisting of acid reflux in the last 2 years and half when I turned 18 and in the last year specifically I have been experiencing this achey/Sharp type of pain in the centre of my epigastric region that sometimes radiates to the upper right side of my back. Usually it is triggered after I have eaten a meal within 5-10 minutes after eating I will experience a mild ache in the centre of the epigastric region always in the same spot which progressively gets worse over an hour and then nausea and sometimes reflux comes on. If I eat any form of junk foods fries, burgers, pizza etc that will really flare up the symptoms but even with simple bland foods/vegetables the symptoms are still there especially with vegetables I get this very bloated feeling.

I’ve tried numerous medications including PPI’s, H2 blockers, antacids which don’t really seem to do anything for me and seemily make it even harder to digest food it feels like it just sits in my stomach when I was on them. I have also gone the natural route and tried aloe vera, slippery elm, turmeric, probiotics etc which again don’t seem to do anything. I seem to have these weird flare ups that last for months where the pain and the reflux gets exponentially worse and then dies down.

I have been to three gastroenterologist and numerous gp’s and none of them can find out what is wrong with me. I’ve done ultrasounds, pretty much every single blood test available, stool test including (CDSA3+), food allergy test, gastroscopy and a colonoscopy which all came out normal besides stool test which showed elevated levels of M2 pyruvate kinase at 6.2 but the scopes/biopeses showed nothing anyways. The food allergy test showed I was intorelant but not allergic to dairy, wheat, legumes and egg but I rarely have any of those foods. I do have a bit of anxiety/stress in my life but I don’t think it’s bad enough to cause all of these problems.

I honestly haven’t really found anything that has given me relief another that a heat pack on where the pain hurts but most tablets, supplements etc have done nothing. Recently it’s all flared up in the last 3 weeks after coming back from a trip and oddly enough I wasn’t too bad while I was over there other than having a small case of gastroenteritis which subsided after 3-4 days but after coming back is when it hit bad. I am seeing a new doctor now and she re did the ultrasound the other week along with some blood tests and H.Pylori test which again showed nothing but she’s referred me back to my specialist and also getting me to do a heart test but at 20 years of age as a guy they think it’s unlikely but who If you had any advice and another opinion it would be much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Gerd and incompetent sfincter suspected

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I think you may be having gastroesophageal reflux. It is caused by hypotonic incompetent lower esophageal sphincter.
I think you should do manometry of esophageal sphincter done by gastrologist.
It can't be possible that everything comes normal and you are getting worst.
Consult a new gastroenterologist.

Meanwhile drink cleaner water to avoid any infections. Avoid spicy food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
