How To Deal With Gall Stones ?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2022
Question: my 84 year old mother was admitted to the ER last week with severe abdominal right side pain, dizziness and vomitting. The doctors are unable to pin point what is wrong. They said her gallbladder looked ok, although she has a few stones, but they didn't think it was an issue. They prescribed a patch for her vertigo. She continues to have abdominal pain...about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Thought?

Brief Answer:
Gall stones are the possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

I can certainly understand your concern

I have worked through your attached query in detail

Many of her symptoms are directly related to the gall stones. These stones are more prone to infection.

It's advisable to get the gall bladder removed at the earliest to prevent further complications.

Consultation with a General Surgeon is mandatory.

Meanwhile a short course of oral antibiotics and analgesics will help

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you

Is there a test that we should request to verify it is related to her gall stones or a specialist that she should see?

Her bloodwork came back normal when she was in the ER.

It seems that her doctor doesn't know what step to take next. It is quite frustrating.

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound abdomen scan is the next step

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

I can certainly understand your concern

Ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis is the next step advisable in your case to detect the presence of gall stones.

Get this imaging test at the earliest and determine further course of action.

Review with reports.

Post your further questions if any.

She had an ultrasound at the hospital. They detected gall stones, but the doctor is telling us that they aren't a problem. I suppose further discussion with him is what we need to do.

Thank you!
