Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: My wife is pregnant. She was supposably conceived on January 25-29 she took 4 average test on February 4th. She was with another man that I know of anywhere between January 18-21 on February 4th she was two to 3 weeks pregnant. How can that be if she was conceived on the 25. Do you think the ultrasound could be off by a few days? She is 7 weeks now.

Brief Answer:
Difficult to predict accurately

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns about date of conception.

Ultrasound scan always has an error of one week plus or minus. Meaning there is one week variation of dates of conception if you go by ultrasound scan only.

Especially when cycles are irregular this becomes more difficult to predict date of conception accurately as she was with another man between 18 to 21 January.

Based on my experience and ultrasound scan report, chances of conception after January 25 are higher.

Let me know if you need any more clarifications.

So I guess my question now is how could that 4$ test detect she was pregnant if she was conceived on the 26 or even later in January. Could the ultrasound be wrong with the dates. How do you know if its plus minus?

Is it still possible it was conceived between 18-22? If so do you know how likely ?

Brief Answer:
Unfortunately it is not possible to confirm dates so close

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Dates in January you have mentioned are very close January 18 to 22 and 26 are very close.

No test including ultrasound can predict the dates accurately which is just in a gap of 4 to 7 days.

Conception is still possible between 18 to 22 January. Its just not possible to differentiate them by any tests.

Let me know if you need any more clarification.

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy has possibly happened between 18th to 26th January

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are right.

She could have gotten pregnant anytime between 18th to 26th January.

As I said unfortunately no way it is possible to identify such close dates by any tests.

Let me know if you wish any more information.
