How To Determine The Exact Conception Date?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Jul 2016
Question: Saw Dr.. this pertains to my previous email. The responding Dr did mention time of conception. My LMPwas 4-20-16 is it possible iI didn't conceive in April but maybe may and was not quite far enough along for the heart beat to be seen or heard? I know I must sound stupid but when do us ladies ovulate. I never really bothered to read up on that. I just know it happened seeing as I have 2 children already. Grasping at straws here. I hope who answered can we previous emails and response.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for trusting us with your health concern.
Given your LMP of 20th April, your probable time of conception would be around 2 weeks after that.
And you do not sound stupid, do not hesitate to ask as many questions as you want.
Ovulation happens 2 weeks after a period, if your cycles are regular .
Did you have regular cycles ?
So your ovulation would be around the 4th of May, which is when you would have probably conceived, if you had regular predictable cycles.
Weeks of pregnancy are counted from the LMP, so you would be 9 weeks plus counting from LMP, when ideally a viable fetus should be seen.
In case you had irregular and delayed cycles, yes, ovulation and conception might have happened later that what is expected.
Do you have access to the ultrasound scan ?
Could you send me the report ?
I know waiting a week is sheer agony, but only a follow up ultrasound will tell you for sure if the pregnancy is viable.
There is no option but to wait it out.
Regarding your chances, and how optimistic you should be - I need a few details.
For example, were your periods regular ?
And can I have access to the scan that was done ?
Hold on, and have faith.
Yes, I have access to the previous email and responses, and I have gone through those.
Take care.
Please feel free to discuss further.

Usually punctual... rare occasions 3 days off either direction. I'm a 27-28 day rotation. My 1st visit XXXXXXX 2nd we saw sac in right place. 2nd visit XXXXXXX 21st saw yolk/ embrio in sac not sure if those terms correct name but no heartbeat. He then said go downstairs for trans vaginal ultrasound. The only other time I had that was the miscarriage. So I guess I have to ride the bus in that horrible seat again. Just gotta wait until next week to be crushed again. I was just tryin to stay hopeful. Most things I read say no dice at this point.

I was just hoping that someone somewhere had seen this and the baby was there and fine.

Hi again.
Do you have access to the scan reports .
And yes, the terms are correct.
A yolk sac and an embryo would have been seen, but heartbeat also should be seen by then, if you were fairly regular with your cycles.
Stay positive, you have 2 beautiful kids, which many dont !
I realize how difficult the wait is, and then the possibility of being crushed at the end is there too.
But that is the only way out.
Yes, chances of the pregnancy being viable are very very remote, if you had regular cycles, and no heartbeat is seen at 9 weeks.
Those are the scientific facts, and you must accept them, and take it in your stride.
I am with you.
Take care.
