Question: I had virginal sex with a hiv+ lady 8am friday 19 oct, left and came back and had another same with her at 1pm same day did not ejaculate this time. I requested we test same time. i came negative and she had a clear line and a faint line. i went to my doctor who said she was positive, then said i need to get pep 3days AZT. i finished it and still told the dr i wanted the 28 day pep which i have head of, he gave me zidovuden 28days continued from the 3rd day when i finished the AZT. all this was under the 72hrs mark up. she went to lab to test and it was positive elisa test, her cd4 1580 and viral load below <40. I have been on the zidovuden for 3weeks and this is my last week. The med truly has been heavy on me, then I had itchiness no rash burning under my entire back. It seems I have a swollen neck which i went to lancet for 4th generation dou test and sensitive antigen test 19days from exposure. after i took the 4gen XXXXXXX the lab said they needed to finish with the antigen test to clear me so far. the result were negative. I am finishing the zidovuden sunday. what are odds, they say transmission from female to male is 1-1000 and also the fact that i added the pep? I have been so worried with anxiety and depression of this act, I am married with kids and this illicit behavior is putting me at risk and close to my grave, my blood pressure XXXXXXX to 160/120 am so worried. yesterday 14th Oct 3days to finish my pep just did a rapid test that both came out negative.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.
All inter courses with hiv positive lady does not lead to HIV infection. Yes, the odds are 1 in 1000 to 2000 for vaginal intercourse and from female to male. moreover pep had also been given.
So your duo test is negative is a good sign.
So you can allay fears and stop worrying about it for now.
You can go for HIV RNA PCR for now to relive your anxiety after consultation with your doctor.
You can get back for any clarification

Thank you Dr, I just had conversion with our hiv specialist who also advised same and said the antigen test that I did is very definite that I did not contract the virus. and I should do a pcr later to put my mind at rest finally. she said antigens are used mainly for early detection from 10-22 days when the protein pops up before later stage of antibody popping up.....
