Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

I interpreted your concern.

Let me suggest you weight gain tips..

1. Whatever you’re eating now, you should probably double it. If you eat three meals a day, instead eat six. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours, and each meal needs to be the size of a normal meal. 500 extra calories a day = 1 extra pound gained per week. Whatever you’re eating now, add an additional 1000 calories (spread throughout the day), and you’ll put on 2 lbs a week..

2.You need to eat a good amount of calories (probably 3500+ per day) if you want to gain weight, but you want to make sure most of those calories are GOOD calories. Good, high-calorie dense foods include peanuts, peanut butter, raw oats, lean red meat, bagels, and dried fruit. The more of these you can include in your diet, the faster you'll see results.

3.Get more carbohydrate into your diet through cereal, rice, pasta, fruits, and vegetables to provide fuel for activity.Cut down on fat in the diet and increase the protein and carbohydrate.

Make you you eat one apple, one pomegranate and one egg daily.

4.In case you want to consume fat make sure you consume these- olive oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil; avocados, walnuts, almonds, flaxseeds.

5.Drink atleast 15 glasses of water everyday-Water will help your body process the extra protein and calories you’re taking in. Drink several glasses with every meal to avoid getting dehydrated.

6.Exercise at Gym-Concentrate on complex, compound exercises that recruit as many muscles as possible: bench presses, dumbbell presses, squats, deadlifts, pull ups, chin ups, and dips.

Wherever you’re starting out, concentrate on being stronger each and every time you exercise. Push yourself, get stronger, lift more, and before you know it you’ll be ripped.

When exercising, keep your rest between sets to a minute or less, and don’t do more than 12 reps in a set.

Have a banana, a handful of dried fruit or a sports energy shake immediately after you work out.

Keep in mind that when you eat five meals a day, you are going to be putting on some fat along with your muscle. That’s okay! Figure out what your goal weight is, and then add another 5-10 lbs on top of it.

Once you get to that weight, you can cut back on the carbs in your diet, do more sprints, and keep exercising: you’ll shed the fat quickly.

7. It’s important to get eight to nine hours of sleep every night for maximum gains. If you are only getting six hours or less, you’re not going to get all the benefits of your exercising and diet.

8. Limit cardio sessions.

9.Consider hiring a personal trainer. Within a few sessions, you'll have a great idea of scheduling, form, intensity, and duration of workouts and excellent insight into tweaking your diet.

10.Ask your physician before taking any supplements, and see a doctor right away if you experience an injury during a workout.

Thank you.

Hello XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

I apologize for keeping you in waiting.

Yes certainly medications are available to increase weight.

Commonly employed medications are Mirtazapine and Megestrol acetate.

These drugs act directly on the brain as well on the gut to increase appetite and promote weight gain.

These drugs are prescription medications and has to be taken only under medical supervision. Please check with your doctor if he can prescribe these drugs to you after completely assessing your medical history to check if you are the right candidate to receive these drugs..

Before drug therapy ,I advise you to get complete thyroid test to rule out metabolic causes responsible for weigh disturbances.

Thank you

Hello, Sir.

I apologise for my delayed response.

The expected normal weight for your height is around 70-74 Kgs.

Mirtazapine is available in 15- and 30-mg tablets or disintegrating tablets. The usual starting dose is 15 mg once daily, usually at bedtime. The drug is taken with food or milk.

Megestrol acetate is given as a liquid suspension in 200-mg doses twice or thrice a day.

It takes around 3-4 weeks for the weight gain to manifest.

On an average ,a weight gain around 2kgs is expected in a week.

This drug effect can be monitored by measurement satiety hormones like TNF-alpha and Leptin.

The maintainance doses and duration of therapy can be further guided by weight change ,blood hormonal levels.

These changes are decided by your treating physician.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.

Hello, XXXXXXX

Hope you are doing well.

I apologize for keeping you in waiting.

Both are equally good drugs.

Mirtazapine is better tolerated.

The weight gain is often permanent.Once desired weight is attained, you need to back it up with adequate diet and exercises I mentioned in my first answer.

Also get a complete blood picture, thyroid, and liver function tests initially before starting these drugs.

The various brands of Mirtazapine available are Matiz, Melinton, Mirazep etc.Approximate Cost for 10 tablets would be around 40-60 INR.

For reference, you can go through http://www.drugsupdate.com/brand/showavailablebrands/319
http://www.drugsupdate.com/brand/showavailablebrands/997

You need to take these drugs for at least 3-6 months or as directed by your physician.

Thank you.

Can we drink alcohol after mirtazepine
doctor
Answered by Dr. Suresh Heijebu (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
NEVER drink alcohol while on Mirtazapine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

Good evening.

I understand your concern.

NEVER drink alcohol while on Mirtazapine.

Using mirtazapine together with ethanol can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Few people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol at any cost while being treated with mirtazapine.

Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.

15 mg mirtazepine for 3 months is sufficient for gaining 5 kg weight irreversibly.

Answered by Dr. Suresh Heijebu (9 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Results are permanent after 6 months of use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I understand your concern.

Yes, 15 mg for 3-6 months rather than 3 fixed months would be a better choice.

The results of weight gain can be permanent if backed up by adequate nutritional support.

But in most cases the results are permanent after 6 months of use.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.
