How To Get Relieved From Pain Caused By Cough ?
Question: My mom use to cough several times and it causes pain between her chest and stomach. It is observed from past 2 weeks.
We have consulted a doctor, and he told she has viral.
We have consulted another doctor , who prescribed some tests as he felt about typhoid. After test reports he confirmed she don’t have typhoid.
we have followed the prescriptions they gave including some antibiotics injections but still we don’t see much of relief in cough and pain.
Mostly she cough during night time while sleeping. We are also following home treatments warm water, hot sips.
we also did x-ray , sputum-test which were negative and nothing wrong found on x-ray.
She is not diabetic.
Major issue is cough and pain in cheast. Can you reccommend something.

Pain in chest and cough together, in which antibiotics didn't work and tests are normal, could mean some non-infectious entity like allergy, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), etc. It may also be a virus like flu. Antibiotics donot have an effect on viruses. But you have not mentioned any fever, so virus is less likely. Pulmonary function test could diagnose conditions like asthma and COPD. Allergy is usually associated with symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, low grade fever, skin rash etc. Does she have any such symptoms? Does the cough wake her up from sleep? Is there any difficulty in breathing/breathlessness?
Amongst tests, it is worthwhile to do ECG and pulmonary function test.
Meanwhile she can continue
- Gargles with warm water plus a pinch of salt added
- Tab Cetirizine 5 mg OD
- Tattva Syrup Kasahari
