Question : My wife ia going through ptsd and being treated with amitriptyline, i was a patient about 4 -5 years back and was being treated for ocd with fluvox for 5-6 months eventually i became absolutely fine, now as she is going through a rough phase and i guess i am worried ,a few days back i just experienced a few obtrusive thoughts, that is fear that i might hit my younger daughter,or feeling that i might go back to the same phase,do i need to start medication or i shud just try to fight out this phase and ignore such thoughts if any, or please suggest some good book for reading,i am quite optomistic that this will not pull me back the way i had been once, but i thought better to ask a proffesional?

Brief Answer:
I do not think you need medication for few obsessive thoughts

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

In my view there are many things which come before medication and they should be utilized before jumping to medications. In addition certain obstructive thoughts (I guess you mean obsessive thoughts) are normal in stressful situations and they should be dealt like normal stress.

I understand that you are more vulnerable for recurrent episode of OCD but it does not men you need to start medication in advance.

Rather than fighting OCD, I feel overcoming OCD or minimizing symptoms should be strategy. There are many books available but I feel Brain Lock by Dr. XXXXXXX is good read.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
