Brief Answer:
I would recommend having sexual intercourse every second day

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I would like to explain that it is important to calculate your ovulation days. This can be done usually by calculating the number of days of your cycle (first day of cycle to first day of the next cycle) minus 14 days.

For example ( if you have 30 days cycle, your ovulation is very possible to happen in day 16 from the first day of your cycle).

There are also other methods used to determine your ovulation time like:

-measuring the body temperature every day in the mornings. In ovulation time the body temperature raises 0.5 grade Celcius.

-notice the changes of vaginal mucus discharge. They become more viscous in ovulation time.

Sperm cells can stay alive up to 2 days in women genital ways, and the same is for the woman egg cell.

So the most probable days of getting pregnant are starting 2 days before ovulation time up to 2 days after (approximately 14-18 days from the first day of your cycle, if you have a 30 day cycle).

Sperm concentration depends on the frequency of sexual intercourse. A very frequent sexual intercourse can decrease the sperm cells concentration, decreasing the possibility of getting pregnant.

So I would recommend having sexual intercourse every second day in ovulation period.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri

Today is day 16 of my cycle. I had sex once on day 14, once on day 15 and once today. I did LH surge tests yesterday and today and they were both negative. I didnt do the lh surge tests earlier as didnt have them yet. I had a hemaplegic migraine yesterday which is usually triggered by hormones. Have i had sex at fertile time? Is lh surge test negative becauae i am testing too late in cycle or am i likely to ovulate later in cycl? Thanks XXXX

Brief Answer:
Your ovulation will probably occur during these days

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

The fertile days depend on the length of your cycle. If you have 30 days cycle, ovulation occurs usually on day 16 and the fertile days are days 15-19. If you have a shorter cycle (for ex. 28days), the ovulation occurs in 14th day.

As you refer your LH surge test has resulted negative. This means that ovulation has not occurred. Sperm cells can survive in your genital ways up to 2 days. So there is no possibility of pregnancy yet.

Migraine attacks are triggered by high hormonal levels. This means that your ovulation may be about to occur today or tomorrow. I recommend having sexual intercourse today and in the next days.

I would also advise you to be calm. It is very important to avoid psychological stress during these days.

I would also recommend noticing the changes of your vaginal discharge and your body temperature, as I described earlier to detect the ovulation.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions!

Best wishes! Dr. Iliri
