How To Keep Blood Sugar Under Control?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: Hello Dr. I am taking supermet xl 50 mg , gylcomet sr 500 mg twice a day , calicar 10 mg and sartel 40 mg daily for bp and diabetes. Are these the right combination of medicines. My bp is controlled 120/80 and my sugar fasting is generally 125 and pp is 170. Are these medicines actually required ? I have been taking supermet xl 50 mg for 4 years now. Earlier I used to have palpitations but now at times only I have a slightly high heart rate around 90. So should I still continue to take supermet xl 50 mg ?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Continue / Sugar needs better control / BP good

Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Both fasting and postprandial sugar values are still on the higher side / you may increase the dose of metformin (Glycomet) to one gram twice / recheck after a fortnight…Discuss about this with your doctor.

Metoprolol (Supermet) is useful for blood pressure, heart rate and so on. The dose is up to 200 mg or more. Your heart rate is 90 with the drug… You need to continue. And get investigated to find out a cause – like overactive thyroid…/ ambulatory heart rate monitoring and so on,,, your doctor will advice appropriately.

BP is controlled well
Calicar is Clinidipne – a calcium Channel Blocker / used in BP control
Sartel is Telmisartan – an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB) used for BP. These class of drugs are given in diabetics even with normal pressures, for protection of kidneys… You need to continue
There are several tablets with 2 or more drugs – your doctor may switch over when the things are under control – helps long term compliance

Good luck
God bless you
