Statins will help, do a thyroid panel.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
How good is your diet and exercise? If it is not good enough do regular exercise for 20-30 minutes and high fibre low calorie low fat diet.
You are probably having mild decrease in thyroid function. It could be a reason for increased cholesterol. Do a detailed thyroid panel - T4 and anti thyroid antibodies. If it is showing hypothyroidism we can start on thyroid hormone after consulting your doctor which will bring down your cholesterol.
If cholesterol is not normal after all these measures, it is better to start on medications to decrease it. The first line drugs are statins ( atorvastatin, rosuvastatin etc). Consult your doctor for prescription.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.
Regards,
Dr Ajish TP [MD,DM]
