How To Manage Taking Care Of Infants On Apnea Monitors?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I have twins that are 5 months. They were born at 30 weeks and came home at the end of October. I was very nervous with them, mainly because they came home on apnea monitors.

I was not comfortable doing tummy time until recently. My husband has been doing it with them several times a week. I am scared now, they are moving more and I am afraid they will roll onto their stomachs in the night and not have the strength to help themselves and suffocate...is this a concern? What can I do? I am now doing tummy time 2-3 times a day. Their adjusted age is 3 months

I have noticed a very strong ammonia smell in their stool the past couple of days, is this something they need to be seen for? Is it something serious?

Thought that I had deleted the question about their stool, that has resolved itself.

Brief Answer:
I do not think that you need to get concerned. Bed sharing not advisable

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Although the activity of your babies has increased, your babies will probably be able to roll over at about six months or seven months of corrected gestational age, when their neck and arm muscles are strong enough. Some babies manage to roll over as early as three months, but other babies take longer than seven months. I do not think that you need to get concerned about their turning over during sleep. All I would recommend is not to share beds.

Some amount of pungent odour in stool is normal but since the problem is already resolved, I am not commenting on the same.

Hope that helps.
