How To Quit Smoking Addiction?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Sep 2015
Question: I smoke 15-20 cigarettes a day and I am unable to quit smoking.
I used Bupron 50mg tablet to quit smoking but it only lasted for a couple months and I regained the smoking urges and started smoking again.

I do not have any allergies or anything. I'm 26 years old and work night shift 40 hours a week.

please advise.

Brief Answer:
medications only part of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

From the available description it appers that you are addicted to nicotine and finding it difficult to control.

First and foremost I like to tell you that bupropion helps you in reducing craving and reduces withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation. This only helps for properly motivated person like you.

As it worked for you in past there is need to restart it again from 150 mg and than to increase 300 mg from day 4.
On day 7 stop smoking alltogether.
After one month bring down the bupropion to150 mg and continue same for next 6 months .

In addition you need to keep your motivation at highest posdible level and need to learn to say NO to friends who offer cigarettes to you.

This will help you in stoping smoking alltogether.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.

Brief Answer:
there are simple side effects only

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

There are no serious side effects with use of bupropion and can be taken safely upto 300 mg.
The majority of side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset and few others.

The most serious side effects is occurrence of seizure which occurs in less than one percent person if dose is upto 300mg.

Bupropion helps in gaining more concentration and even helps with lack of concentration.

Sleeplessness occurs in less than 30% and thats why it should be started at the beginning of day. Since you have night duty you can take in evening.

I hope this helps you.
