How To Remove Protein Bar Stuck In Throat?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: Hi

I ate a protein bar about an hour ago. It seems that a piece is caught halfway in my throat. Tried drinking water and clearing my throat. Nothing works. I almost coked to death about 20 yrs ago on a piece of Tootsie roll. It has me worried. If I go to sleep can it come up and choke me in the middle of the night? Should I go to ER I HATE GOING THERE !

Brief Answer:
Foreign body in the trachea

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I would like you to do the following

1. Gulp down 20--250 ml of water
2. Try voluntarily coughing to clear your throat and airway

Even after this if you feel uneasy and there is slight breathlessness then please approach the ER to see for foreign body stuck at your trachea. Lying down flat can cause it to block the trachea

I hope I was of help, please get back to me if you have any further queries

Regards
