Question: How do you treat a damaged nerve? Why doesn't the pain level reduce during the healing process?

Brief Answer:
Due to nerve misfire.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Damaged nerves due to injuries chemicals or diabetes frequently misfire, sending pain signals when there is no cause for pain. They can also put you at risk for more serious problems such as foot infections. I can understand your distress. People with nerve pain do continue to have pain despite the best efforts of doctors.
The regeneration of nerve is a slow process and can take 6 months to a year. There is no specific medicine that can help the nerves to regenerate. The pain does not reduce while healing because the free nerve endings do get misfired easily. For controlling pain the pan killers or lignocaine patches to numb the nerve endings are required.
Applying botanical oils such as geranium oil can reduce the pain of neuralgia. Other oils, such as lavender oil, have been shown to help relax people, which may also help take the mind off nerve pain.
Topical Capsaicin cream, made from hot chili peppers also helps. In case the pain is severe and uncontrollable then epidural analgesia or opioid analgesics are needed for relief.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you so much for your response. It not only confirms what I have learned but also gives me new oils to try. My doctor (and I) are ready to implant the neurotransmitter that interrupts the pain signal. If I do this, will I injure or impede the healing of my nerve by being active, standing on my leg, etc?

Brief Answer:
It will not do any damage to the nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Implanting the neurotransmitters to interrupt the pain signal will not affect the regrowth of the nerve fibers. Being active and standing on the leg will help in producing a natural stimulation of the nerve fibers thus helping in an earlier regeneration.
Hope my answer is helpful.
