Question : I am 47 years old and have been taking Tonact 10 for the last 2 to 3 years as in one of the previous years blood reports my cholesterol was slightly on the higher side and I have a history of cholesterol in my family. However, over a period of time I am experiencing fatigue, body ache and loss of libido. I would like to stop taking Tonact 10 for a month to see if these symptoms vanish or reduce. I would also check my cholesterol after a month to see if it has risen significantly. Please advice. Thanks.XXXX

Brief Answer:
YES - WE CAN

Detailed Answer:
Dear friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Yes / you can stop Atorvastatin (Tonact) / continue Life style changes / and recheck
Continue other drugs. You should only stop such medications under the advisement of your primary doctor.

There are subdivisions of cholesterol – LDL, HDL, non-HDL and so on.
HDL is good cholesterol – higher, the better.
LDL is bad cholesterol – lower, the better.

In the absence of any other risk factor 100 is ideal for LDL-C. In the presence of ischemia, 70 should be the aim.

Keep your weight to normal / even a little less
Quit smoking, if you are a smoker

Do regular EXERCISE – say walking or jogging - 30 minutes a day / at least 5 days in a week.      Healthy FOOD is a must. Avoid saturated fats – coconut oil, palm oil, butter, ghee, full cream milk...Avoid junk foods in particular – French fries have palm oil / Pizza has cheese / XXXXXXX sweets are made in ghee.../ Change to Poly-un-saturated oil – like sun flower oil. / Include Mono-un-saturated oil – Olive oil.

Repeat the test in 2 to 3 months.

Cholesterol can still be high, in spite of diet and exercise – you will have to restart drug / because it is also manufactured in the liver – and that is determined by heredity.

Statins are the first choice… and in cases of side effects like this, there are alternatives like Fibrates, Bile acid sequestrant and so on… Your treating doctor will give appropriate prescription

Take care
Good luck
