Question : I am 6 weeks pregnant and work at a hospital. I just walked by an area where they were doing construction and breathed in dust. I walked through quickly. I have no history of asthma or other medical conditions. I am terrified I just exposed myself and baby to aspirgillus or other air contaminents. Do you think my baby could have been harmed? I'm really scared.

Brief Answer:
Single exposure does not cause a prolonged damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Just walking through a polluted area once and inhaling the dust is not likely to cause a permanent damage to your lungs or any effect on the baby. It is the chronic and repeated exposure of the baby to such contaminants that predisposes you to diseases. There is no need to worry. Avoid any more such exposures in future.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for the response. I woke up this morning with a soar throat. Do you think that could be related? If so, is there anything I should do for it? Or am I over thinking this? Thank You.

Brief Answer:
Warm saline gargles can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The soar throat can be related to an allergic response to the dust exposure. Doing warm saline gargles will help in recovery. This will not cause any long term effects. So no need to worry.
Hope my answer is helpful.
