Question : I am 66 years old. I have blisters in my mouth. my doctor suspects oral herpes and results of culture are not available yet.
I have been on a wait list for shingles vaccine for weeks. Yesterday pharmacy called to tell me that I am on top of waitlist now and asked me to come in today for the injection.

Should I have the shingles vaccination before I know what is causing the blistets in my mouth?

Shingles vaccine is very effective and has less side effects. Almost all has been exposed with chickenpox. Patients older than 50 yr exposed with chickenpox can have serious complications. Shingles is very effective in preventing complications but it is not available easily. You can take the shingles vaccine before getting the report. It will help you to prevent complications from chicken pox infection from earlier contanlmination of not this time. So you can take shingles vaccine. Please review if you have any queries.
