I Am A 30 Year Old Female And Want To

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Dec 2018
Question: I am a 30 year old female and want to go through a cycle of social egg freezing. I am trying to decide what is the better strategy: doing it immediately over the holidays or delaying slightly to prop up my body health over the next 3 months. For context: I am living in France, which does not allow social freezing, but will get the procedure done in Germany (where I am from). I already did a cycle once last year January but only got 9 eggs. Having to go to Germany for the procedure means I have to take 2 weeks off work for this and this is usually tricky to find the timing (i have a very long hour high pressure job). It would hence be better for me personally to « get it done with » over the Christmas and New Years holidays, however, I have put my body under extreme stress in the last months (allnighters, little sleep, eating sugar and smoking under stress, going trough jet lag four times a months at least etc) and I know stress and poor diet can effect egg quality. Would you recommend me to thus delay the procedure and spend at least 3 months to eat healthy, try to sleep more etc, or do you think given my relatively young age it would still be ok to get the retrieval done now? Many thanks for your insights

Brief Answer:
No need to wait

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) Eggs are not affected to great extent by factors you mentioned (allnighters, little sleep, eating sugar and smoking under stress, going trough jet lag four times a months at least etc).

2) Oocytes have predetermined reserves based on your genes and the quality of oocytes depends on genetic component of the nuclear material.

3) Short term changes in diet , stress etc wont have any role and similarly there is no need of eating healthy or reducing stress for next few months as it wont improve or change the egg quality. Get it done during holidays.

4) You should have had more than 9 eggs last time as you are just 30 year old. Let me know your Anti mullerian hormone AMH levels if the blood test is done recently. These levels decide the egg reserve. Get it done if not done recently. Given your young age I was expecting more oocytes.

5) You can consider coming to XXXXXXX on Medical VISA if you wish to freeze oocytes at lower prices in equally competent IVF centres as in europe at lower cost.I can assure you best quality of oocyte preservation facilities in fraction of european prices.

6) Better to go ahead with egg freezing soon without waiting as it makes no difference.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Thanks so much for your quick response Dr. XXXXXXX
I do not know my exact AMH hormone levels, but the doctor was also very disappointed at the yield of only 9 eggs after the surgery and said she did not expect this as all my blood tests had looked fine.
Can I just confirm - diet and unhealthy habits have no impact on egg quality at all? Or only not in the short-term?
Many thanks,
Lara

Hi XXXXXXX

Diet and unhealthy life style have no impact on egg quality at all. Short or long term. Go ahead and freeze oocytes in this holiday.
