I Am A 60 Year Old Healthy Female Experiencing My

Question: I am a 60 year old healthy female experiencing my second bout of uncomplicated diverticulitis in three years. I have finished my Cipro/Flagyl meds and my lower quad pain returned. I religiously increased my diet slowly; still taking a somewhat soft diet with the return of pain. Put myself back on clear liquids to help control.
My lab in the ER was all normal with the exception of my total bili at 1.3. All other liver enzymes were normal along with normal CBC, chem panel, lipase and urine. I’ve never had any elevation in my bili. Should I be concerned? Could this be related to a lot of inflammation in my abdomen from the diverticulitis?
Your thoughts?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Bilirubin is clinically normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query my dear patient,
Bilirubin levels less then 3mg/dl has no clinical significance.
Basically Diverticulitis involves inflammation of small spaces called Diverticulas by bacteria and protozoans. This usually happens as a result of imbalance between good and bad bacteria's in intestine.
Antibiotic kills bad bacteria's but also causes good bacteria to die away(Therefore a good probiotic has to be taken to increase the good Flora of gut)...In addition to it lots of fibers has to be taken(Take Isabghul husk) with XXXXXXX warm water to clean intestines.
A check ultrasound should be done to see if infection has cleared up completely.
This pain is related to inflammation either due to incomplete eradication of bacteria's or due to depletion of good bacteria's in intestine.
Hope I was helpful,
Thank you!

Thank you for your response. The only other problem I have had is that I have some bladder irritation. I cannot create the usual strong stream; I feel some pressure on my bladder at times. The bladder pressure and pain to my LLQ abdominal pain coincide.
I assume this is from the colon’s inflammation and the close proximity of the bladder. I have had a vaginal hysterectomy/oopherectomy and 4 c-sections.

Brief Answer:
Follow up.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for follow up my dear patient,
I would suggest you to go for a CT kidney and Urinary bladder with contrast to look for the cause of problem.
In women's hypertonic pelvic floor muscles could be a cause of bladder irritation and voiding problems etc.
I would suggest you following tests-
Urine analysis and culture
A CT KUB c contrast.
A pelvic floor physiotherapist consultation.
Thank you!
