Question : I am a 63 year old man who weighs about 270lb. I am taking three meds for high BP, 25mg of Hydrochlorothiazide, 10mg Lisinopril and 50mg of Atenolol. I have had a dry cough for years that I have attributed to the Lisinopril, but I have learned to live with it. I have recently heard that ACE inhibitors (Lisinopril) may cause a significant increase of risk for me should I acquire the Covid-19 virus. I monitor my BP regularly. I am wondering if it would be prudent of me to stop my dose of Lisinopril. Are there any hidden dangers to abruptly stopping my dose of Lisinopril?

                                    Brief Answer:
Yes, you may stop it but needs to monitor bp frequently
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There is preliminary evidence of development of severe disease with covid 19, in patients either on ace inhibitors or arbs, but it's not yet confirmed.
There is no significant danger in stopping it, other than rebound increase in bp. So, you need to monitor bp more strictly and frequently. Also, you need to have other antihypertensive available with you like amlodipine or cilinidipine. You may have additional dose of hydrochlorthiazide or atenolol if your pulse rate allows.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
