Question : I am a 69 year old female who has had sleeping problems all my life. I current am prescribed 3x10mg temazepam and 3...3.5mg zopiclone. By taking one of each a night I get a reasonable sleep, that leaves 4 nights to take an anti histomin. I used to get the occasional sleep without any help but not anymore.
Without any sleeping aids I lie awake most of the night and then feel sick and a terrible bad head the next day.
I am (or would like to be) a very active person. I play golf reasonably well and walk a minium 4 miles everyday.
My question is what is the worst senario....taking pills every night or lying awake. And the side effects.

Brief Answer:
Better to take pills and sleep rather to stay awake.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, it is necessary to have good night sleep.
This is very important for your next day.
So take pills which give you sleep rather than to stay awake.
Better to do it regular follow up with your psychiatrist about drug dose modifications.
No need to worry for side effects as these newer drugs are very safe in long term use.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
