Question: I am a 74 year old woman who has self-diagnosed a UTI (I seem to get them every couple of years) and started a dosage of ciprofloxacino (1 500mg a day) on august 16. I bought the copra in Mexico and the exp. date is Oct., 2018. My concern is that I still have an urge to urinate frequently with not much result and a slight pressure in my lower abdomen. There is no burning with urination and the previous odor of urinating has gone away. However, shouldn't the symptoms be gone by now? Am I not taking the right dosage? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Urine culture and sensitivity is advisable for further work up.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You have taken correct dose of it for urinary tract infection. Your symptoms should gone away right after treatment.

You still have urinary frequency problem.
So it's advisable to investigate with urine culture for further work up. You can be prescribed antibiotic According to culture report.

If urine culture comes negative for any organism then ultrasonography of pelvis and urodynemic flow study advisable. You have repeated urinary tract infection history, so I would like to add in my answer to investigate with diabetes as well.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards. Dr Parth.
