Question: I am a triathlete but have been forced to do less and less. Short of breath with exertion, limited endurance now. Was diagnosed with asthma earlier this year and the inhaler helps but still not back to where I was. Left leg swelling, actually left leg is 1 1/2 inches larger than the right leg now, itching, can’t take a deep breath any more. Resting heart rate is still good in the 50s. I have been trying to lose weight but I am actually gaining despite the exercise. My husband is concerned

Brief Answer:
Get done fresh PFT

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum for.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of uncontrolled asthma is more likely.
So in my opinion, you should get done fresh PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to identify severity of your asthma.
Treatment is based on severity only.
So please let me know
1. Which inhaler you are taking?
2. Have you ever undergone PFT?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
