I Am Being Troubled By The Swelling Of My Hands
Question: I am being troubled by the swelling of my hands at night; it actually wakes me up. I wake up, have to manipulate them to move again and then can go back to sleep. This has been going on for several months; I wear a wrist splint and this helps somewhat...but still have sypmptoms (mostly the right; but also the left). I have been tested to r/o RA and other things. Have had xrays, and now just completed nerve and EMG tested with no results (as they were looking for carpal tunnel and now have ruled that out. What next steps you propose? My hands ache and get tired and I have dropped things and cannot carry heavy things anymore.
Brief Answer:
Visit a rheumatologist and an angiologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service. I read your query and here is my advice.
Sometimes the swelling of hands is the sign of electrolyte imbalance. You can check your electrolyte balance by the blood test.
Rheumatic diseases such as arthritis or psoriatic arthritis or Raynaud phenomenon.
Lymphedema may be another cause, that is the blockage of lymphatic drainage.
I think you should again contact a rheumatologist and then an angiologist.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Would lymphedema be constant? This is happening AT NIGHT WHILE I SLEEP only. And, what is an Angiologist?
Brief Answer:
Angiologist is a specialist doctor that studies vessels of blood and lymph.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again. Lymphedema is constant but may be eased by movement that gives better circulation and moves fluids.
Angiologist is a specialist doctor that studies the vessels veins, arteries, and lymph vessels. He may do any examinations to see if the problem comes by your vessels.
Best regards.
