I Am Concerned With The Fact That My Alkaline Phosphatase

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Oct 2018
Question: I am concerned with the fact that my Alkaline Phosphatase is high....it was 127 with a range up to 117. My Triglycerides also cam e in at 401 with a range up to 149 and as you could imagine my cholesterol was also bad.

Just curious what all this means I looked up on the internet and seen where this can be cancer and has generated quite the stir for me. I am also waking up the last 2 weeks with both arms asleep and a slight tingling around the left side of my mouth and jaw...I have a beard and if feeling I get is hard to explain as I am not numb I can still feel my face.

Any thoughts

Brief Answer:
It is not cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Haroldf,

An alkaline phosphatase of 127 is not high, it is more likely a coincidental finding without relevance . if you have it measured again in a week, it will probably be normal, and it is just a natural phenomenon that these results fluctuate. Also, the rest of your liver function tests are normal, strongly arguing against liver disease. Nothing in your blood results indicates cancer.

Your triglycerids are very high and certainly call for treatment, e.g. statin and/or fibrate. A more general check-up with weight, blood pressure, etc. also seems reasonable at this time.

The tingling sensations seem completely harmless, but if it bothers or concerns you, you should see your doctor about it. It could be sleep apnea.

Hope this helps.

I tried taking fenofibrate and I thought that it might had been what caused the tingling but the doc did not seem to think it was common so she has asked me not to take the medicine and change my diet and exercise to lower it. I also started taking fish oil to help. i also have high blood pressure 127/80 and take Losartan 100 mg for that.
