I Am Confused And Concerned Is It Gastro Said She Saw Inflammation

Question : Just got an endoscopy done. Gastro said she saw inflammation in esophagus from reflux and some inflammation in stomach so she took biopsies and would test for hpylori. I don’t really suffer from acid reflux so I’m a little concerned about malignancy. I have a follow up in one week for results. Could cancer present itself as inflammation alone or would there have to some type of tumor like object in order for malignancy. From what she stated it’s only inflammation but she said no more so I am confused and concerned. Thank you.

Have seen your details,
99.9% it's not carcinoma.
Inflammation looks like bright red colored area on endoscopy while Cancer is usually associated with severe symptoms like Severe heartburn,Hoarseness of voice,Difficulty in swallowing,Unexplained weight loss.
It's not necessary that heart burn is always there in patient with H.pylori infection.
So just wait for the results.
Don't worry too much.
It's not cancer.

Thank for your response doctor. I managed to get a copy of my report. It states:

- LA Grade B (one or more mucosal breaks greater than 5 mm, not extending between the tops of two mucosal folds)
esophagitis was found in the distal esophagus. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology.
Findings:
- Mild inflammation was found in the stomach. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology.
- Atrophic mucosa was found at the incisura. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology.
- The duodenal bulb and second portion of the duodenum were normal. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology

Impressions: - LA Grade B esophagitis. Biopsied.
- Gastritis. Biopsied.
- Gastric mucosal atrophy. Biopsied.
- Normal duodenal bulb and second portion of the duodenum. Biopsied.

Could you explain these findings and if i should be concerned. Thank you.

These findings in lay mans language are suggestive of gastritis and inflammation and mild breaching in outer most layer called mucosa.

You would be given antacids and have to follow a proper diet( low in spices and fat) to cure the problem.
