Question: I am faced with several medical issues and I am addiction recovery for Opioids and Benzos and I have been sober for 8 1/2 years. I deal with a lot of chronic pain and I am sometimes tempted to request narcotic pain medicine. But I hesitant as I have had a history of abuse. If I was to ultimately decide to do that what is the best way to go about executing that. I'm nervous but I am suffering often.

Brief Answer:
Non opioids can be of use

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns about chronic pain on multiple occasions.

First of all I like to inform that after chronic use of opioids our brain reacts differently and any new administration of opioids can restart the process of addiction. At the same time more than eight years of sober period indicates that you have enough control on yourself and you can limit the use to a large extent provided same control continues during the period of medical use. I mean to say that the available details have strengths as well as limitations in your case.

Secondly I like to inform you that certain pain medications are quite effective and can be used instead of opioids on need basis. One such example is Ketoroloc. Another such example is SNRI group of medications which can help you in controlling pain without causing addiction.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks again.
