Question: I am having trouble staying awake during the day. No matter how much sleep I get at night I still have problems staying awake during the day. It mainly occurs when I sit down and start to read or write or when I start to drive my car. At first I get this feeling like a floating sensation and I start getting this weird like feeling that makes my vision blur and my head start feeling funny and I shake my head like I'm trying to clear up whatever's going on and it may work for the first few times and then like right now while I'm trying to type this message I've got that funny feeling coming over me add to where I feel like falling asleep but it makes my body feel weird and if I try to walk I will almost fall out and my arms and legs start feeling heavy and if I try to speak my speech is slurred and I begin talking out if my head one minute and then it's like snapping ur fingers and poof I'm back with u. My husband even says I get like this look in my eyes like u know the lights r on but no one's home kind of look where they get real glossy and weak looking. My whole body will start to feel numb and my arms and legs feel too heavy to lift. Please help me I don't know what is wrong this comes on suddenly and I'm truly scared!!!

Brief Answer:
Iron deficiency anemia or Hypothyroidism.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think you need to do a total check up, total blood count with formula and biochemical blood balance and feritimemia.
Also you may need to test thyroid hormone T3, T4 and TSH levels.
Iron deficiency anemia and hypothyroidism may be causing the excess tiredness, weakness and fatigue.
Also you need to get screened for diabetes testing fasting glucose levels and post prandial glucose levels and HbA1c.
Please tell me if you are taking any medications or supplements because they may be causing the excess sleepiness too.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
