Hello Moloneymarilyn.

Thank you for using ASK A DOCTOR. Hope I can help you today.
Swollen leg below the knee, how far the leg swollen go? do you have any pain, warm or redness? Did you have any knee injuries? It would be helpful if you could send the picture of your both leg and answer some more question.

Leg swelling can be cause from the inflammation or Deep vein thrombosis or muscle strain, tear or twisting injury, leg swelling in a paralyzed limb, Venous insufficiency ect. You can elevate your leg up to your heart level. There are some cream that could help swelling warm and redness is diclofenac cream. You can apply on the affected area two times a day. The more information you give me the more I can help you better.

Hope I answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
you can try diclofenac from over the counter

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you again for your question. If it warm and swelling, you can try diclofenac from over the counter. but if you have your open wound with liquid you should try to clean with normal Saline and apply Antibiotic cream and /or hydrogel cream. But if you feel worsening you should see a doctor. He or She may need to do physical examination and they will rule out the serious problem.

Hope you are getting better soon.
Best regards,
Dr. Raksmey
