Detailed Answer:
Hii. Welcome to the healthcare services. There are many causes of sudden loss of smell. It can be due to allergic rhinitis or allergic cold, nasal polyps or fungal infection. Nowadays in pandemic period the most common symptom after covid infection is loss of smell. So start a nasal fluticasone spray 2 puff at bedtime for 1 month to decrease any existing nasal allergy. Add nasoclear nose drop 3 drops thrice daily to clear the nasal airway. Take antiallergic tablet levocetrizine 5 mg at bedtime for 2 week to decrease allergic inflammation. Take steam inhalation. If it is a covid infection then sensation of smell will come within 2-3 week after resolution of infection. If it is not resolved within 1 month then consult an Ent surgeon and do a nasal endoscopy to see if there is any nasal polyps or infection is there or not. Please review if you have any queries.
