Question : Hi, I have been diagnosed with PMDD and my GP recommended either celexa or prozac for this. I am wondering which of these meds you feel is better for PMDD. I have terrible symptoms - depression, anxiety, pain, bloating, and insomnia from this. I am worried to gain weight as well. Please share your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Hello,

First of all I like to share that both Celexa and Prozac are effective for the treatment of PMDD. Secondly the available evidence suggests that the Zoloft is better treatment option for treatment of PMDD among all the available SSRI.

Having said this when we consider the weight gain Prozac is most suitable option as it is considered largely weight neutral. It has also been observed that those who are on the higher side of weight range tend to loose weight when prescribed Prozac.
