I Could Feel My Whole Body Tensing Up And I Tried To Move My Knees Up And It Was Too Painful. I Could Only Move Holding Onto Furniture What Are These Symptoms ?

Question: I couldn't sleep the other nite. All of the hairs on my body "rose up" (like when you get cold). I could feel my whole body tensing up and I tried to move my knees up and it was too painful. When I got out of bed, I could only move holding onto furniture because my hips, legs and feet couldn't hold my body. I have been feeling like this for two days and I'm at a loss. I did sleep last nite but this morning all of my joints and muscles STILL hurt and it went down into my hands (swollen). I DO have arthritis -- but I can usually walk a bit. I have had both hips replaced -- one in 1999 and the other in 2001. I'm 66 years old and I have accepted my arthritic pains -- but these past two days have been horrific. Any answers??

Brief Answer:
This is probably an acute flare of arthritis. Please see the detalied answe

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
Sorry to hear of your sickness .I can understand how difficlut it must have been.
Infact what you said looks like you have an acute flare of your arthritis ..you didn't mention which type or arthritis do you have ? Because the management of arthritis depends on its causes.

There are infact two types..one is degenerative which mostly don't need treatment other then pain relief and some physiotherapy .such type are.mostly not serious .
The other type is inflamatory type ..which needs specific tretment examples are rheumatoid arthritis or reactive arthritis.

What you said like stiffness in morning along with sever pain in multiple joints , this more appear to be an inflamatory arthritis .So at the moment you can use some painkiller like ibuprofen and paracetamol and heat application to the joints but this would need proper work up to know exactly what could be the causes your arthritis. ( if not already known )

Some times we advise People to take steroids for a brief period but after proper assessment and on prescription only which settle the fake very effectively .
Flares of arthritis are not very uncommon , so you don't need to worry alot , this is porbably your own primary arthritis .The managemnt primarily depends on the cause.

Hopes this helps you understand your problem , Please feel free to ask anything more you need to know .I would be glad to answer .

Kind Regards
Dr Rahman
