Question : I currently need a knee replacement, due to a severe accident 30 years ago my femur is 3/4 of an inch shorter,is it possible to lengthenmy femur 1/2 inch during knee replacement by altering the way the new knee is fitted THANKS
Brief Answer:
Other femur can be shortened.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Lengthening of the femur is not possible during the procedure. But in case you have a bilateral knee replacement then the lower end of the other femur can be shaved more so as to decrease the discrepancy. It is easier to shorten the length rather than to lengthen it.
I hope this answers your query.
