Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
A dental bone implant is done to replenish the jaw bone which is usually lost due to a missing tooth.
The common complications of it are pain, swelling, redness, bleeding and discomfort.
They usually take 2 weeks to regress completely.
As your procedure was done only 5 days back, these symptoms are quite anticipated.
If sutures were applied, they would resolve by themselves.
Had crews were placed, they would have needed a removal at a following appointment, by doctor's discretion.
There is a remote possibility that the sutures have broken.
As the area is still red, an infection and inflammation can not be ruled out.
You must have been prescribed some antibiotics.
Usually Amoxicillin and Metronudazole are prescribed to such patients.
Take your antibiotics,as prescribed.
You can take NSAIDs like Advil or Tylenol to reduce pain and inflammation.
At times, even narcotics are needed to control the pain.
Drink plenty of fluids and water.
Avoid salty, spicy and citric foods.
Avoid hot foods.
Avoid mouthwashes.
To reduce swelling, use moist heat.
Continue eating a soft diet.
Avoid chewing in the surgical site.
Sleep with your head up by 35 degrees.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.
Abstain from smoking.
If the symptoms do not improve, visit your dentist on Wednesday.
Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts, please let me know.
Stay healthy.
Regards.

Complications of dental implant
Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Amoxicillin-Potassium clavalunate is usually preferred for Dental infections,if patient is not allergic to it.
Each film-coated tablet contains: Amoxicillin Trihydrate IP equivalent to Amoxycillin 500 mg and Potassium Clavulanate Diluted IP equivalent to Clavulanic Acid 125 mg.
It is usually given every 12 hourly.
To minimize potential gastrointestinal intolerance and optimize it's absorption,it needs to be taken at the start of a meal.
At times commercially available lactobacillus preparations are added to counter the G.I side effects.
To enhance anaerobic coverage,at times,Metronidazole needs to be added to the treatment regimen.
In patients with out a known allergy,it is usually prescribed in doses of 200mg three times a day.
Alcohol should be avoided while taking it and for 48 hours after finishing the course of tablets, as this might cause unpleasant side-effects.
The antibiotic course may stretch over 3 to 7 days depending upon the severity of infection.
It would have been better if antibiotics were added to your prescription to avoid any secondary infection but it is his prerogative to decide according to the clinical findings.
You can consult about it when he is back.
Regards.
