Question: I had a reoccurring female perineal cyst that would get infected then pop then heal. After a year - I went to the Gyn clinic. It was drained and I was put in Bactrim. I was healing. I was referred to a dermatologist for follow up 2 weeks later and she confirmed it was a cyst and made an incision to remove it. She said there was no cyst sac left and only scar tissue which she removed. Is this a good thing ? She didn’t explain much.

Brief Answer:
Regarding cyst

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Perhaps the scar tissue that had formed involved the surrounding cyst wall/ sac as well which explains that there was no cyst wall/ sac, only scar tissue. It's fine if she removed the scar because firstly she could not have known beforehand whether there was a sac left without opening it up. She must have realized that during dissection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Thank you. The suture line is 1/2 inch and there are 2 internal stitches. There is, however, a slight opening where a bit of bloody drainage occurs. Will this opening close on its own or do I need to have it relooked at ? If it does close on its own - how long does it take to do so ? It’s been 48 hours and is still tender - is that to be expected ?

Brief Answer:
Regarding stitch site

Detailed Answer:
hi.
I suggest you to take a prophylactic course of oral antibiotics, e.g Amoxicillin or Cephalexin for a week, just in case there is a little bit of infection at the stitch site which might be causing it to discharge You may also use a topical antibiotic e.g Mupirocin ointment, twice daily.

take care
